| Current Rating: None | I guess you think that I’m a square
Just because I happen to care
If I live or if I die today.
So you can pass out on the floor
Then wake up and complain some more
But that won’t make the system go away.
And I guess that if it did then you would throw that forty out the window
And give up drinking once and for all.
You’d say that it’s not fun and it really never was.
Cuz you won’t be caught drinking for a cause.
You can laugh and you can smirk and say the music doesn’t work:
While I think that it can get us pretty far.
But fuck you and your sealed shut eyes that roll at us while we organize
If you’re gonna fight then you need more than a guitar.
You think that I’m just a self-righteous warrior ready to die for the cause
But you don’t even know who I am.
You think that I want a revolution with a capital “R”
Just because I care enough to stand.
So you can just spin round while the gears of the system grind.
The first thing we have to smash is this state of mind.
If you think that we are doomed to fail
Why get up every day just to accept your slavery?
Maybe it’s because you’ve never been to jail.
To me hope is more than just the potential for disappointment
I’ve seen the eyes of men for whom hope is everything.
And I hunger for the day when the rich will finally have to pay
And the jails will all crumble and let us out into the sun.
But I suppose you’d rather just stay inside
Because hope is selling out, and beauty is a lie.
Fuck you. I wanna live and never die.
And it’s easy for you to say there’s nothing we can do for change
Because it’s not your town that’s getting bombed.
Yeah it’s easy for us to say that change will never come.
If it doesn’t we can always go back to Dad and Mom.
So you can just spin round while the gears of the system grind.
But we’ve got more to smash than just a state of mind.
And if you think that we are doomed to fail
Why get up every day just to accept your slavery?
Maybe it’s because your parents could post your bail.
We all know we’re just pretending.
But for now at least let’s play the fool.
We like to talk as if we were dancing on the edge.
But we all know we’re just passed out on the roof.
Open your eyes look and you will see
You bear a privilege known as apathy.
It sure is easy to not give a fuck
When you’re born into the middle class by some stroke of luck.
And it sure is easy to just spend you life passing time
When it’s not your house getting bulldozed near the green-line.
For all the people who have no choice but to believe
That someday we are gonna win.
For all of the mothers who cannot bear to lose another
I will sing with you again. |
