This album is the debut release from The Used. The Used have a number of harder, screamo type tracks, such as Maybe Memories, Box Full of Sharp Objects, and of course, the hidden track Choke Me. The cd also offers a mix of more mainstream friendly, lighter tracks, such as The Taste of Ink (which is the bands story), and Blue and Yellow (which is reportedly a song Bert wrote about a family that took him in). The band uses a bass line to grab your attention very well, and right from the start with Maybe Memories. You get hooked within the first 2 songs, as the single The Taste of Ink is next. The next song that really stands out to me is Say Days Ago. It amazes me how Bert (lead singer) can scream out the verses and then go into singing the chorus much "cleaner" almost flawlessly,(incidently, this is also quite a good song live if you ever get the chance to see The Used in concert). This can also be seen in my personal favorite song from the cd, Box Full of Sharp Objects. This track has excellent vocals, and incorporates some of the 'harder' sounds the band uses very well.

The next song I really notice is Noise and Kisses. The lead guitar plays a catchy tune, and the vocals draw you in to the song, especially with layered, hard to hear words spoken during verse. This is followed by an acoustic track called On My Own. This is just a really great song, and shows the diversity of the band. To be able to pull off a song like this, and do it well is amazing considering the general sound of the band, which is much harder. The cd ends with a fun audio clip of a birthday celebration for Bert, and the song Choke Me. The name kinda speaks for the song, you can guess what it's like.

All in all, this is a pretty damn good cd. It's nice if you like to listen to something a little harder than most mainstream music, but still like softer songs here and there as well. For anyone that gets the second The Used album (In Love and Death) and enjoys it, check out their debut. For new music fans looking for a good cd, I'd say check it out, it's good music.
