"In Love and Death" is The Used's sophomore release, the follow up to their hit debut self-titled album. The music is similar to the first album, but it is nowhere near as good. This CD is lacking something, and overall it's just mediocre.

The first song is also the first single from the album, "Take It Away". It starts off with an interesting sample, followed by the sound of a shotgun firing blended into a guitar, which was actually a pretty cool effect. This song is decent, it's full of energy, decent melody and vocals, and unfortunately it's probably one of the best on the cd. The next song isn't bad, but it's nothing special. The third song "Let It Bleed" is decent too, and it seems to me as though this song has Glassjaw influences behind it. "All That I've Got" is either the best or second best song on the cd. It's a softer song, but the lyrics are really cool and it's just got a really good feeling to it. Next is "Cut Up Angels". I didn't like this song when I first heard it, but it's actually pretty decent. It's got a weird rock / retro feeling to it.

The next few tracks are nothing remarkable, just a mix of harder and softer songs. The ninth track is "Sound Effects and Overdramatics" is the hardest song on the album. It seems pretty out of place, and doesn't even sound like The Used. It's not a great song either. Next, "It's Hard to Say" is one of those songs that I guess you could probably enjoy if you just broke up with your girlfriend / boyfriend... but I didn't, so this song just comes off as whiny and obnoxious. The last song on the album, "I'm a Fake" is the last good song. It starts off with a really great intro, and from there out it's a typical The Used song.

Overall, this CD isn't really great. It's better than a lot of other trash out there so it's worth listening to, but you probably won't enjoy it for very long.
