Matchbook Romance is yet another band in the Used / Story of the Year genre type of music. Their debut album, Stories and Alibis, has some extremely interesting drum beats, guitar riffs, lyrics, and overall feel that sets them apart from the rest of the crowd. The album starts off with an "Introduction", which is a full instrumental. The first song that really caught my attention was the third one on the track, "Playing for Keeps". The song has a really catchy chorus along with some great lyrics that make it enjoyable to listen to over and over again.
The next standout song for me was "Tiger Lily". The one acoustic song on the CD, and it left me wanting more. This song shows off the wide range of talent that the band has and their capability to produce more than just the typical emo song. Most of the other tracks on the CD are decent, but the last one that really stood out for me was the last track on the CD, "The Greatest Fall". This song has some great lyrics and really intense screams. The CD is a very promising first release, and I look forward to seeing what comes from them in the future. |
