From Autumn To Ashes is not the typical band that I would usually like. It's usually very important to me that I can understand what the singer is saying, as I like to try to find deeper meanings in the lyrics. The lead vocals for this band are pretty damn hard to understand as with many bands in the screamo genre. But, unlike with other screamo bands, I just don't care that I don't know what he's saying.
One thing that's different about FATA is the backup vocals, done by the drummer, are basically the opposite of the lead vocals. The lead vocals are very harsh and raspy, whereas the backup vocals are soft. The two vocals contrast so much that when they are put together, it seems like they go together perfectly. Combine that with the intense guitar-riffs and talented drumming, and it all just flows into one incredibly pumped-up, energy-charged album.
My favorite song on this album has got to be "Alive Out of Habit", it seems to just have everything. Amazing lyrics, incredibly emotional vocals, perfect tune, and I especially like at the beginning of the track where they synchronize the vocals to the guitar (you've got to hear it to understand).
My only gripe with this album is "Autumn's Monologue". Don't get me wrong, this song isn't bad at all, it's actually pretty good. Autumn's voice is as beautiful and passionate as ever, but it just doesn't live up to Autumn's track on the previous album "Short Stories With Tragic Endings". Aside from that, the CD is great. Even if you're not into the screamo genre, you can definitely enjoy this one. |
