Scenes From A Memory, that's the follow up to the song Metropolis from Dream Theater's 1992 album Images And Words.
Yes you read it right, this album actually contains only one single song, but as it's about 77 minutes long, it was divided into 2 acts and 12 scenes.
Scenes From A Memory is a concept album that tells a story, the story of a man named Nicolas, who tries to find out about his past and discovers a tragedy.
But the story is not the most important thing about this cd - it's the music! Nice ballads (Through Her Eyes, The Spirit Carries On - yes Emerald, this is 1000 times better than Backstreetboys!!), great heavy metal songs (Fatal Tragedy, Beyond This Life, Home) and instrumental songs (Overture 1928, The Dance Of Eternity) which once again prove that John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy and Jordan Rudess are some of the best musicians out there!! Or just listen to the drums of the 2nd part of Finally Free (my favourite song btw) - amazing!
If you normally only listen to music with at most 3 different chords, then Dream Theater might be a bit too difficult and confusing for you... But if you like melodic heavy metal, or even jazz, maybe also play an instrument yourself, then do yourself a favour and buy this cd, put it into your cd player and do what the hypnotherapist tells you: Close your eyes and begin to relax |
