Time to place the spotlight on some German music.
Maybe some of you have already wondered about that band which has occupied the "Most Popular Songs" ranks for the last weeks (months?), so here you are:
Die Ärzte is a German punkrock band, that's been making music for the past 20+ years (although they dissolved for a few years inbetween). They've released more than 10 studio albums and some best of, live and unplugged records as well, and played many sold out tours.

Planet Punk was their 2nd album after the reunion, released in 1995, and it is IMO their best album.
It starts out with Super Drei, a funny hymn with lots of self-irony ("we are back and it smells like urine, we are die Ärzte from Berlin"). The 2nd song Schunder-Song was also their first single, it's quite heavy with a nice riff, and some ska-elements in the refrain. The 3rd song (and also 2nd single) Hurra! is full of bitter sarcasm, describing how wonderful and peaceful our world is... But there are also some fun / nonsense tracks on the album, for example Mein Freund Michael (about Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher) or Meine Ex(plodierte Freundin) (= "my ex-ploded girlfriend"). Another highlight is the last song "Opfer", which starts with a 1-minute chorale and then goes over into a great speed-metal song.
Overall I like the songs written by singer/guitar player Farin Urlaub more (Langweilig, Der Misanthrop, B.S.L., Red mit mir, Trick 17 m.S.), but also the other songs are good, except Rod Loves You, a soppy ballad (of course meant ironic, but still the song sucks :P)

So, if you like rock/punk music and are interested in German music, give this one a try, it's definately worth it! :)
