After having produced 2 really hard and raw albums, in the year 2000 the Deftones suprised everybody with their 3rd album White Pony.
They still have some heavy songs where Chino Moreno screams like hell (Elite, Korea), but what makes this album so special are the slower, melodic songs, which create such a great atmosphere that you gotta be a machine if you're not moved by this. Just listen to Digital Bath, Change (In The House Of Flies) or Passenger (a collaboration with Tool's Maynard James Keenan) - such great emotional songs! Or the last song (if you have the standard edition CD) Pink Maggit, which starts out with nothing but some chords and whispers, then evolves into a heavy riffing song and ends in chords and heartbeats...
The only song I don't like on the CD is Teenager, a slow boring song without any guitars at all. But that doesn't hurt the overall impression, all other 10 songs (especially those mentioned above) are great, and thus 5 points for this album! |
