So I'm wandering through HMV one day when I came across this album. Never heard any songs from them before, I'd only ever heard them talked about in passing. So I was quite surprised when I had the incredible urge to buy this CD. I didn't get it that day though. About a week later, after my girlfriend bought Digital Ash In A Digital Urn she got the CD for me. Having now heard recent Bright Eyes material, I had been dying to get their other 2005 release (this album).

Let me start off by saying if you haven't got Digital Ash or I'm Wide Awake and can't decide which to get, I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning blows Digital Ash In A Digital Urn out of the water. Not to take anything away from DAIADU, it's still a really solid CD, but I just love IWAIM.

The CD starts off with a story intro to the first song, "At The Bottom Of Everything." Some may find this boring or just plain bad, but I like it. It adds another element to the song.

It's hard to pick standout songs for a review with this CD, every song stands on its own very well. I honestly feel this is a solid album from start to finish.

If I had to pick other songs of note, Road To Joy would be one to check out. It takes from Beethoven's 9th ("Ode To Joy") and uses it for the basic tune throughout the song. It comes off very well, and is a personal favorite of mine.

As I've now come to expect from Bright Eyes, the lyrics are very well written, and very passionate vocals in most if not every song. That really adds a lot to this CD. You can tell Conor Oberst (singer/song writter) puts a lot of himself into each song. As a result, there is no "filler song" on this album.

To sum up, if you've never heard Bright Eyes, this album is a very good start for you. It's full of amazingly catchy melodies, some very interesting arrangments (the only insturment in every song is guitar), passionate vocals for well written songs. If you're able to separate the artist from the fans (which can be very hard) there's a good chance you'll really like this album. I recommend you buy this album.
