You know those bands that have really obnoxious fans, to the point where it makes you hate the band? And even though you've never heard any of their stuff, you really hate the band, just because they have so many fans that are really, really, really annoying. Well, that's Bright Eyes in a nut shell. So, in order to justify my hatred for the band, I decided to pick up the new album... and unfortunately, it was actually really, really, really good. Bright Eyes is everything Dashboard wants to be. They're similar to Death Cab, but more vocally driven.
I don't feel like going too much into detail in this review because a part of me is still hoping that I'll wake up soon and have hatred for Bright Eyes again, but I've been listening to this album on repeat for days now, so the chances of that happening are pretty poor. Anyway, the most interesting songs on the album are "We Are Nowhere And It's Now", "Old Soul Song", and "Road to Joy". Road to Joy stands out because it has the same melody as Beethoven's famous "Ode of Joy". The other two songs... and, well, the entire CD is just a good combination of acoustic guitar and passionate vocals, resulting in 45 minutes of happy / sappy / mellow music.
So... if you hate Bright Eyes as much as I did but never actually heard them, I recommend you listen to this album, and with any luck you'll absolutely despise it. |
