I want to start off by saying that this CD is the only CD I've purchased in the past two or three years. Not only did I decide to spend my hard earned money on buying this CD, but I decided to spend my hard earned money after I had already downloaded a copy of it. This CD was so good, I felt the NEED to own it. This CD is inspired, talented, and I hate to use the word, but... hell, it's just perfect.
The CD starts out with a slow track, Tautou, that's about a minute. It has just two lines, but they've managed to capture so much meaning in them. "I'm sinking like a stone in the sea. I'm burning like a bridge for your body." The next track, Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades is upbeat, fast, clever... maybe one of the best tracks on the album. It's real catchy, and gets you ready for what's to come on the rest of the album.
The fourth track, Okay, I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't, is my personal favorite off this CD. The song is almost six minutes, and has almost a two minute intro - the best intro to any song I've ever heard. With lyrics like "I am heaven sent / Don't you dare forget" and "You can't keep a secret if it never was a secret to start / At least pretend you didn't wanna get caught" Brand New's message echoes (literally) loud and clear.
Following up that stellar track is their first single off the album - The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows - which is just as catchy and compelling as the rest of the album. The album tackles issues from relationships with girls to losing a loved family member, on the track Guernica. The final track, Play Crack the Sky is extremely haunting and chilling, and is one you'll have on repeat for a long time to come.
This CD deserves a 10 out of 5. It's just that good. Brand New has shown an incredible amount of growth from their debut album, Your Favorite Weapon, which is also an excellent album. If you don't get this CD, you'll live to regret it. Treat yourself to something nice - pick up Brand New's Deja Entendu. You won't be sorry. |
